Disc Herniations and Chiropractic Treatments

True disc herniations usually produce recurrent back and/or leg pain. Simple activities such as sitting down and rising from a chair are painful. Some people may even adopt a way of standing that lessens the pain. For example, one may stand with the hip and knee slightly flexed or may even walk on the toes of the foot on the affected side to relieve the pressure on the sciatic nerve. Gentle chiropractic manipulation of the spine can be helpful to people with intra-vertebral disc syndromes. Recent advancements in computerized traction have lead to a new therapy for disc injuries called spinal decompression. This type of treatment uses far less weight than traditional traction used in the past.  It creates negative pressure within the disc which causes disc bulges and herniations to retract and decreases nerve root pressure.

The diagrams and MRI scans above show how this process works. We have been using decompression therapy in both of our offices over the past three years with excellent results. It works extremely well with neck and arm pain also. If you would like more information regarding disc injury treatment visit our website at www.schumacherchiropractic.com  or contact me directly.
